Also known as 133.0-133.1 ft

Where: Hampton County, Virginia (37.1° N, 76.4° W: paleocoordinates 37.2° N, 74.6° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Eastover Formation, Late/Upper Miocene (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

• SOURCE: collecton from 40.54-40.57 m (133.0-133.1 ft) in core. STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: Overlies the St Mary's Fm (early Late Miocene), and in turn is overlain by the Yorktown Fm. Both contacts are unconformable. The height of contact between Pliocene Yorktown Fm and the Eastover Fm is 23.3 m (76.3 ft). BIOSTRATIGRAPHY: NN 11 calcareous nannofossil zone, D9-D10 dinoflagellate zone and M7-M8 molluscan zone.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified, shelly/skeletal, argillaceous, silty, sandy sandstone

• DEPTH: relatively shallow, marine shelf with diverse substrates. SALINITY: no specific data reported, apparently normal marine conditions. THERMAL TOLERANCES: subtropical-warm-temperate. PAELOBIOGEOGRAPHY: no specific data reported.
• GENERAL LITHOLOGY: Shelly, sandy basal lag and consists of clayey, silty sands.

Size class: macrofossils

Reposited in the USNM

Collection methods: core,

• SOURCE: occurrences of large recognizable species and any molluscan remains were noted. Fossiliferous samples were collected at selected intervals for precessing and further examination. Samples were washed, the fraction >850 um was retained, and molluscan fauna specimens recovered were sorted and identified. Generic assignments for extant groups were updated on the basis of Turgeon et al. (1998). COLLECTORS: Collected by NASA-USGS. REPOSITORIES: presumably reposited in USGS and USNM collections.
